About The Book
Unjustly Served: The Brutal Reality of Military Sexual Trauma is a groundbreaking anthology that pulls back the curtain on one of the military’s most devastating secrets. In these raw, unfiltered accounts, survivors of Military Sexual Trauma, both women and men, share their stories of betrayal, retaliation, and survival.
These pages hold more than testimony. They are a collective cry for justice, exposing the systemic failures that left survivors silenced, disbelieved, and discarded by the very institution they swore to serve. From rape and harassment to cover-ups and dishonorable discharges, Unjustly Served reveals the true cost of silence: broken families, lost careers, and lives cut short by suicide, addiction, and despair.
But these stories are also about resilience. Each voice adds to a rising chorus demanding recognition, accountability, and change. For survivors, this book is proof you are not alone. For America, it is a call to finally face the truth and stand with those who served.

About The Authors
Paula J. Kemp

Paula J. Kemp
Founder & President, Unjustly Served, LLC
U.S. Navy Combat Photographer (OIF/OEF) • MST Survivor • Veteran Advocate
Paula J. Kemp is the Founder and President of Unjustly Served, LLC, a national advocacy initiative amplifying the voices of Military Sexual Trauma (MST) survivors. A proud U.S. Navy Combat Photographer, Paula served from 1998 to 2006, deploying across the Middle East, South America, Canada, and throughout the United States. Her adventurous spirit led her to experience a wide array of naval equipment, including helicopters, planes, carriers, and amphibious watercraft, with the LCAC standing out as her favorite ride in the Navy. She also made history as the first female photographer, and first service member, to capture images from the top of the Golden Gate Bridge. Her photography has been featured in military and civilian publications.
While she thrived in the adventure and responsibility of military life, Paula also endured its darkest reality: Military Sexual Trauma. Rather than remain silent, she transformed her pain into purpose. She became a fierce advocate for survivors, founding Veteran Sisters, a nonprofit dedicated to MST support. Over the years, she has been recognized with awards and commendations for both her advocacy and her service. Today, through Unjustly Served, she continues that mission on a national scale, amplifying survivor voices, pushing for accountability, and building resources to support veterans betrayed by the very system they swore to defend.
Paula’s advocacy is also deeply personal. After the tragic loss of her son in 2021, she stepped down from her role as Founder and
President of Veteran Sisters, the nonprofit she had built for MST survivors. Though she left that chapter behind, she never left her
calling. Today, as Founder of Unjustly Served, a Peer Support Specialist, author, and national voice on MST, Paula continues to guide
fellow survivors on their path to healing and justice.
At home in Tennessee, Paula is grounded by her family, her husband, three children (Cory, Chayse, and Rylee), five grandchildren,
and her loyal service dog. Through them, and through her work, she carries forward a mission larger than herself: to make sure no
survivor of MST is ever left behind, unheard, or unjustly served.

them. His work goes beyond the therapy room, reaching national audiences through writing, research, advocacy, and speaking
engagements that call for systemic reform in the military, the VA, and mental health care.

-
Underreporting: The number of reported incidents is lower than the actual number of assaults, as many victims do not report their experiences.
-
Higher estimates: Independent studies suggest the actual prevalence could be two to four times higher than the DoD's official numbers.
